The College of Charleston Merit Scholarships are merit based financial Aid awards offered to first time entering freshmen who are US Citizens or legal permanent residents. Dollar amounts vary based on the current year's applicant pool and budget.
Students must have the admissions application and all supporting credentials on file in the admissions office by December 1 to be considered for the College of Charleston Merit Scholarship. Students will be notified of scholarship awards no later than March 15. The selection process is highly competitive due to the high number of qualified applicants and available funding. Students will be evaluated among their peers in the freshman applicant pool to determine scholarship eligibility. Students will be evaluated based on standardized test scores, high school GPA, and high school rank.
Colonial Scholarship
The Colonial Scholarship was established as the College of Charleston's most prestigious scholarship. Four recipients are selected amount the highest qualified students from South Carolina in each freshman class. The academic credentials of the students at the time of admission, prior academic and community service involvement, and personal interviews with members of the Scholarship Committee are considered in the selection process.
Palmetto Promise
The College of Charleston Palmetto Promise is a guarantee that all Palmetto Fellows admitted as entering freshmen will receive at least $4,000 in Institutional Scholarships. The Promise also includes any admitted freshmen who are valedictorians or salutatorians of a South Carolina public high school.
Gateway to Success Scholarship
The Gateway to Success Scholarship was established to increase enrollment of first generation, under served, and economically disadvantaged students with strong competitive academic credentials. There is no application for a Gateway to Success Scholarship. Students are identified from their admission application and supporting academic credentials. The Scholarship is only open to students who have completed their admissions application and submitted supporting documentation by December 1.
