Teaching Fellows participate in advanced enrichment programs at Teaching Fellows Institutions, have additional professional development opportunities, and are involved with communities and businesses throughout the state. They receive up to $24,000 in fellowship funds (up to $6,000 a year for four years) while they complete a degree leading to teacher licensure. The fellowship provides up to $5700 for tuition and board and $300 for specific enrichment programs administered by CERRA. All Teaching Fellows awards are contingent upon funding from the South Carolina General Assembly. A Fellow agrees to teacher in a South Carolina public school one year for every year he or she receives the Fellowship.
Application
The Teaching Fellows application will be open September 1, 2015 to December 1, 2015.
Interview
Qualifying applications ware invited to a regional interview, and all supplicants are notified as to whether they have been selected for this second phase of the process. The purpose of the interview is to assess the following: communication skills commitment to teaching, problem solving ability, originality and knowledge of world an educational processes.
Writing
Applicants will be scheduled to complete a thirty minute writing prompt during the interview. Scores from the interview and writing prompt will be combined with the initial application score to make up a final total composite score. Up to 200 of the top scorers will be offered Teaching Fellowships. Other qualifying applicants will be placed on an alternate list.
Eligibility
- To apply for Teaching Fellows, you must be:
- a United States citizen or permanent resident alien legally authorized to be in the United States. (Please note- students categorized as Defferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are not eligible for Teaching Fellows).
- a legal resident of South Carolina
- a high school senior
